Congratulations to the Cyril Scott Pipe Band
- an Ohio band from the Columbus area -
which moved up to EUSPBA grade IV.

The Cyril Scott Pipe Band is a traditional Scottish style pipe band. The Band has performed with the Chieftains in 2008, 2009 and in 2010, the Ohio State Marching Band during half time shows, including the Fiesta Bowl, the Columbus Symphony, the Columbus Pops Orchestra and at Huntington Park for the Columbus Clippers. The band is a perennial favorite at the Dublin Irish Festival, held in Dublin Ohio every first weekend in August.  [They have also played for the Celtic Beltane Festival.]

A report on a recent performance of our own Celtic Eagle Pipe Band, by PM Tim Wiley

The Celtic Eagle Pipe Band continues to improve and did well taking a third in the Livonia Grade 4 contest and a 5th in the Open 6/8 contest.  But we are only as good as the great individuals in our band like Brian McElhiney!

You should know that Brian came in FIRST in his Piobaireachd contest and was named the overall Grade 3 Piper of the Day at Livonia!!  I am including a pic if you would like for snippets of Brian's big win!

The CELTIC EAGLE PIPE BAND once again performed at the Celtic Beltane Festival, held at the Tudor House in New Franklin Ohio on the 18th of May 2014.  They gave an absolutely outstanding performance - well and enthusiastically appreciated by all who attended.

The Celtic Eagle Pipe Band is the official pipe band of the Scottish American Society.  We are very proud of all their accomplishments and of their very professional performances.

Our hats are off to them and our hands applaud them for all they do!

The Celtic Eagle Pipe Band continued their success with another 1st place finish.  It's the first time the band has won 1st place in two consecutive contests.  We took 1st in piping, 1st in drumming and our drum major (Alec Brown) also took 1st place in the Drum Majors competition.  It was a very successful day for the Celtic Eagles.

As a side note, our friends from Columbus (Cyril Scott Pipe Band) took 2nd place.

I've attached a photo of Celtic Eagle with the trophy. [see above]

CELTIC EAGLE PIPE BAND TRIUMPHS

The weather conditions forced the pipe band competitions indoors at the Edinboro Highland Games on 9/8/12.  At an event that, in years past, has been dominated by the McDonald Pipe Band of Pittsburgh... the Celtic Eagle Pipe Band of Akron took first place among the grade V bands.  Under the leadership of Pipe Major Tim Wiley, all the hard work this summer seems to have paid off.  The drum corp, under the guidance of Rich Schwenning, also received high marks from the judges.

Celtic Eagle plans to carry on their success this next weekend (9/22/12) as they once again travel into Pennsylvania... this time to compete at the Highland Games in Ligonier.  Wish us luck and safe travels as we aim to do something we never accomplished before... landing first place trophies in two consecutive competitions.

PIPER NEWS

HADDINGTON PIPE BAND

Greetings from Scotland

We thought the Society might possibly be interested in a new CD we’ve just launched (produced by Greentrax Recordings).  It has 14 tracks (33 tunes) of popular pipe band music from the 2009 Scottish Pipe Band of the Year.

We have put together a short (three-minute) video which features one of the tracks plus images of the band. It’s now on YouTube at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pX8G1ot7oVA

There’s more about the band and the CD on our website, www.haddingtonpipeband.co.uk. There’s also information there about ordering the CD, should you be interested in doing that. (It costs just 10 (plus postage and packing) and we’re turning orders around within 2-3 days.)

Many thanks for giving this your attention, and very best wishes,

Alastair Bruce

CELTIC EAGLE PIPE BAND WINS AWARDS
AT
2011 OHIO SCOTTISH GAMES

Akron's own Celtic Eagle Pipe Band placed in both the EUSPBA and the Ohio Valley competitions at the Ohio Scottish Games this year.  The band earned a solid 3rd place in both competitions (with esteemed judge Reay MacKay giving us first place marks in piping).  Even better yet, our drummers were given the distinction of best grade 5 drum corp at the games!!!  The tightness and consistency of our drummers really helped to push us into the top 3!!!  The placings earned the band some cash awards to help with the cost of outfitting and travel.

Our next competition will be in Edinboro PA, on July 30th and then Ligonier PA on September 10th.  We're constantly improving our technique during the summer and look forward to showing the piping world that the Celtic Eagle is truly on the hunt!
