Congratulations Kim Belvin (she and her friend Emma
help out at the gate at the Beltane) for her championship season with her softball team, "The Hustlers." They won the
SEGA League Championship and then went on to win the area wide tournament. Congratulations also to Kim for winning "Athlete
of the Week" at Springfield High School.
A very special thanks
To Jim Frost, and to Nancy Davis, Brian McElhiney, Marguerita Bowers, Bert
May, Jane Pattie and all those who helped with both the Sas'y display and the Genealogy at the Ohio Scottish Games.
A round of applause to Jim Frost for putting together a Scottish Culture display that was a real crowd pleaser (and question
generator). Special thanks also to Bill & Julie Kennedy and the crew from their clan that helped us set up and
break down. What would we do without these faithful folks?
It should be noted that our Sas'y folks were spread throughout the games,
and not just at the tent. As it should be. Several have their own clan tents, some work at various venues, some
were participating in competitions, some were running the competitions and some participated in events leading up to and following
the games. The Ohio Scottish Games are very important to the celebration of our heritage and we take great pride in
active and enthusiastic participation in this yearly event.
Tattoo Video spellbinding
Everyone enjoyed Betty Marcus and her presentation of the Edinburgh Tattoo
video. The library facilities provide a large screen which made us feel almost as if we were there. In fact, many
of us had been, but agreed that the camera viewpoint often was better than our view from the stands. It was a memorable
event and really enjoyed by everyone.
Sterling speech on Stirling
Bob Morehead did an outstanding job in his presentation on the historic
significance of Stirling Castle and its defense. As always, he was interesting, amusing, and we learned a lot.
Of Tee Shirts & Such
With ongoing participation in games, festivals, and outdoor activities we
decided it would be nice to be noticed. We often wear matching red polo shirts with an embroidered "Sas'y" (crossed

Frances Acar, Bill & Julie Kennedy, the entire Sas'y crew did an incredibly
outstanding job on the Beltane Festival in Hartville in May. All our thanks also go out to Bill Bakan of Maize Valley Farms
& Winery for the expertise, the work, the publicity - everything. They were WONDERFUL! J & C Entertainment
did the sound system. These folks are fabulous. They adjusted to each group despite the varying needs, and
made it all come out professionally. Applause to them! The Beltane Festival just was wonderful.

PAST PROGRAMS
Dennis Gressock presented a costumed demonstration and discussion of the
Role of the Scottish Highlander in the American Revolutionary War. I think all of us would like to have had him
speak for hours more. Dennis is a knowlegeable and interesting speaker. We learned a lot and had about a thousand
questions for him.
Bob Morehead led a most interesting discussion on "How the Scots Invented
the Modern World" at a February meeting. And, in addition, brought along his daughter and brand new grandbaby.
Now he and Ida have two - a grandson (a Murray, we note) and a granddaughter now two years old.
For those of you looking at this site for the first time, we have had programs
on tracing your ancestors, on Charles Rennie MacIntosh, on the history and construction of castles & cathedrals, the Giants
of Seville, the poetry of Wm. McGonagall (Scotland's worst poet) and a poetry contest. We participated in activities
associated with Ohio's Bicentennial, Tartan Day festivities, the Brigadoon Celtic Festival in Burton and four very
successful Celtic Beltane celebrations. We had our first annual St. Andrews celebration in 2008 and plan another for
2009. We attended the Burns Dinner sponsored by our neighbors to the North, the Scottish Heritage Association of
Northeaster Ohio, in January, and several members of our group help with Ohio Mart at Stan Hywet Hall.
