The Scottish American Society
is a group of people interested in the culture and history of Scotland and her people.  We are open to participation by individuals and families of all ages. Our gatherings are held at various places.  Contact any of the chairmen or co-chairmen for information or check this site for locations.

Our Objectives
Fun, fellowship, culture, information.  We meet to greet, enjoy each other's company, learn about Scottish Heritage and Culture, and decide what social event will get our attention each month.

Events and Programs
Among programs we have had are:  a Genealogical expert discussing tracing family roots; a costumed Revolutionary War Highland Soldier demonstrating kit and weaponry of that time, Castles & Cathedrals, history and structure; discussion of the poetry of William McGonagall (arguably Scotland's worst poet) and a poetry contest.  Frequently we dine together - either with covered dish dinners, dinner at a local restaurant or at our annual summer picnic.  We participate in Tartan Day activities, State of Ohio events, the Brigadoon Celtic Festival, the Ohio Scottish Games at Wellington and other community events.  We host an annual Celtic Beltane Festival in May at Maize Valley Farms.  We have also hosted at Stan Hywet Hall during the holiday season.  We annually honor a citizen who has contributed time and effort to the Scottish American Community with our Rose and Thistle award - given at our December dinner.  This person is nominated by and voted on by our members.
